The psicotécnico is an official certificate confirming you're physically and mentally fit to drive. You'll need it to get a Spanish licence or to exchange a foreign one. It's quick and routine.
Where you do it
At an authorised Centro de Reconocimiento de Conductores (CRC) — a driver medical centre. You don't need a doctor's referral; you just book in.
What they check
- Vision — an eyesight test (you can wear glasses or lenses; it may be noted on your licence).
- Hearing — a basic check.
- Coordination / reflexes — a short psychomotor test on a screen, tracking moving targets.
- General health questions — a brief medical and psychological screen.
Will I pass?
For most healthy adults it's a formality. Bring your glasses or contacts if you use them. Certain conditions may need extra documentation, but the vast majority of people pass on the day.
