How to Pass the DGT Theory Test First Time
Passing the DGT theory test is mostly about studying the right things in the right order. Follow this plan and you'll walk into the exam knowing you're ready.
The pass requirements
30 questions, 30 minutes, maximum 3 mistakes. You need 27 correct. Multiple choice, one correct answer per question, taken on a computer at a DGT centre. You can sit it in English.
A 4-week study plan that works
- Week 1 — Foundations. Learn road signs and the 50 most-failed questions. These two areas alone fix most failures.
- Week 2 — Rules. Priority/right of way, speed limits, overtaking, safety distance, parking.
- Week 3 — Mock exams. Take a full 30-question mock every day. Review every wrong answer.
- Week 4 — Polish. Re-drill your weak categories and your repeated mistakes until you pass mocks with 0–1 errors.

Exam-day tips
- Read each question twice — translation ambiguity causes more failures than weak knowledge.
- Watch for negatives: 'Which is NOT allowed?' is easy to misread.
- Don't rush — 30 minutes for 30 questions is plenty; flag and revisit hard ones.
- Trust your preparation; don't change answers on a hunch.
